Ready for a Reading Breakthrough This Summer?

Stuck on Reading? I’ve Got Some Ideas for You

Sometimes we think our kids will learn to read by being read to. For some kids, this work beautifully. They follow along and their brains just figure it out.

I am sure we all know someone who taught themself how to read!

I am also sure that we all know someone who is struggling to learn to read. No matter how hard we try it just doesn't seem to click.

What is a parent supposed to do?

I have some simple ideas that might work for you!

  • Go ALL the way back to the basic alphabet. Have your child practice saying the letters and sounds. (Remember, you need to be a part of that process. You say the letter with them and you say the sound with them until you are certain they know it. Bad practice sticks in their minds just as much as good practice.)

  • Practice create CVC words. What is that? Consonant-Vowel-Consonant word like cat, mat, rat. Have your child use letter tiles to manipulate the letters and their sounds. If your child is ready to write the letters, use a whiteboard and have them write the words.
  • Use decodable texts and games to support their reading. Working at the "just right" level and building independence is crucial to your child's reading success.

Hmm, this sounds like a LOT of work! Don't worry! We are here to support YOU and YOUR child!

Lesson Planning for Homeschooling

Are you stuck when it comes to lesson planning? Let's chat about the struggles parents have when planning their homeschool lesson plans. I can totally understand the frustration! After all, I was a classroom teacher for a VERY long time and sometimes it almost felt paralyzing to sit down and do long term plans, and sometimes just doing...

Why is is so difficult for kids to spell and write?

Why do children struggle with their writing? This is an age-old question many educators like myself have been facing for a long time. Parents want answers and educators work hard to give them the answers. But, writing takes a LOT of effort. When we ask our children to write there is a lot going on. 👉🏻They need to come up with their idea and store it in their head. This involves their working memory. When kids are struggling with any task due to a learning problem such as Dyslexia, this will...
