Welcoming NEW Students is ALWAYS Exciting!

We have another NEW student joining the Learning Squad!

June is the perfect time to get additional support for reading, writing, and spelling challenges.

Last week, I had a fomer student of mine reach out inquiring about services for her child. After a phone conversation we were both convinced that I could help support her son on his learning path.

I was so excited to hear the mom's voice. She is all grown up now, but she is someone I am excited to support. She knows her son needs help and she has been searching for the right fit.

As with ALL of my students, we always complete an assessment so I KNOW where to start with his direct instruction. However, after we chatted via phone calls and text messages, we are READY to start this week. She was out of town and I was on a short break, and now we are both prepared to start the journey together as a TEAM!

We are all systems go! What does that look like?

I needed an email for her son's account with me. She is creating one for him. I have set up his Google Classroom account. They are deciding if he will be using an Ipad or a computer for his sessions. He is on the calendar, and we are ready to meet Monday morning. They are downloading the Google Meet app on the Ipad so they can log into the meeting. Boom, they are ready!

It takes courage to seek support for your child. It is hard to ask for help. I honor her and celebrate their family for knowing that they need to take additional steps so their child is a confident and knowledgable reader and writer.

I am very excited to meet her son and see her. I am always honored when former students of mine who now have their own children reach out to me.

This is a GREAT way for me to celebrate the 4th Birthday for Tutoring with Sheryl! Yes, the business has been running for 4 years and I am so proud to say that I continue to gain students, I continue to support families, and I continue to teach kids how to read, write, and spell. That is truly the best blessing I could ask for in life. Thanks for choosing me to support YOUR child.

If you haven't seen this recording called Unlocking Your Child's Literacy (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bKi7iP5WubM) then I invite you to do so. I recorded this 7 months ago with my tutor buddy Tina McMillan and it could be just what you are looking for when it comes to supporting your child's reading.

How to use the Libby App (digital picture of Libby logo)

The Libby App is a priceless tool that many people are completely unaware of, and it could be a game changer for struggling readers. I was at our local library this month and the librarian and I typically chat about all sorts of things. She knows I support struggling readers and writers and she asked me if I knew about the Libby App. I didn't, so she took the time to go over it and I was convinced that THIS could be another tool to help support my students. I sat on the information wondering...

Mother Goose might be old fashioned, but it really does something for kids. Let's dive into this and consider reading Mother Goose Nursery Rhymes to kids. Mother Goose Nursery Rhymes I remember the day I started the book The Key to Rhondo by Emily Rodda to my students. I was teaching a fifth grade class at a local public school and I had just purchased the book from the Scholastic Book Fair. The Key to Rondo by Emily Rodda As I was reading the book and introducing the characters, most of my...

The Kids are home and the first thing you hear is, "I'm bored..." It can feel overwhelming! Here are some quick wins for parents! 1.) Throw a box together with old recyclables that the kids can use for art time. Add any tools you will allow them to use such as scissors, tape, glue, ribbon, crayons, markers, paints and paint brushes. Designate an area they are allowed to create in. When they get bored, encourage them to go to the create space and use their imagination! A GREAT book to read to...
