Can Guest Speaking GROW Your Tutoring Business?

Can Guest Speaking GROW Your Tutoring Business?

YES!

Guest speaking can grow your tutoring business. Recently, I was a guest at a local 6th grade classroom. The teacher, a former student of mine, invited me in to speak to her students about a career as a teacher.

I was thrilled with the opportunity! I made a handout with details about becoming a teacher in the United States and the steps you could follow to make your dream a reality.

The teacher follows me on social media, and she knew that I have a tutoring business. She asked me to speak about this as well. So, I included steps for that on my handout.

As I was chatting with the students, they were all writing down questions and then were prepared to ask me those at the end of my short talk.

I took the time to answer their questions and they were all VERY interested in my journey into running a small business. It was a lot of fun to inspire them to take a chance on themselves and open a business one day.

I left them with their outlines but here is the secret. I added my logo and my website link on the pages. IF any of these papers happen to make it home, it opens the door for parents to look at my website.

This then begs the question of, "Do I need a website?" I think it is a GREAT place to tell your story and then invite parents to start a conversation with you!

Have you been a guest speaker somewhere? Did it open a door for you? What are some ways you think you can get invited to be a guest speaker?

I have some ideas for you.

Contact the local school guidance counselor and ask if they are lining up speakers for next fall. Ask if you can come in and share your business with the school. Tell them you would love to share your special skills with the students.

Contact your local senior citizen centers. Offer to be a guest speaker there! They are always looking for speakers. You can offer to bring in a fun game to play with the people who are present. Then you can share about your business and how you support students.

Contact your local library and see if they are looking for summer guest readers! You can have a fun book ready to read and bring some sort of fun game or activity to do with the kids!

Let me know what you have been inspired to do!

Artificial Intelligence in the Classroom? That sounds a bit controversial! Almost as controversial as the question, "Internet in the classroom?" Yes, I have been in education long enough to remember having this conversation and everyone was worried about how it would change the landscape of education. Back then when were just struggling to get a computer lab with stable internet. A lot has changed over the years, but one thing remains the same. Teachers NEED the training to make this request...
