Feeling Stuck? Let's Plan Together (Lesson Planning for Homeschooling)

Are you stuck when it comes to lesson planning?

Let's chat about the struggles parents have when planning their homeschool lesson plans.

Every homeschool parent I have supported has mentioned to me that they just feel stuck and overwhelmed when it comes to planning their child's weekly lessons.

I can totally understand the frustration! After all, I was a classroom teacher for a VERY long time and sometimes it almost felt paralyzing to sit down and do long term plans, and sometimes just doing the plans for the next day made we want to cry.

You are NOT alone!

Everyone has their own ideas about how to plan for their lessons.

Everyone uses something a little bit different than you do.

Sometimes we just want someone else to tell us what to do, or we just want to know the thinking that goes into planning.

We can feel overwhelmed, stressed out, and simply lost.

This week, I sat down with a parent and went through my strategies for lesson planning.

We took an hour and walked through my thinking and we looked at the amount of time SHE had available to teach. Then we discussed what she wanted to teach. This was followed with WHAT she would teach. We dove into places she could look for curriculum and what to look for as far as her children's grade level expectations.

She seemed so relieved that I was giving her a plan of action and she also was recommitted to taking planning for her homeschool lessons much more seriously.

She had felt lost and now she was very clear about how to move forward.

We also chatted about next steps. If it still felt overwhelming, what was the NEXT thing I could do to help support her. When she realized I offer quarterly planning support, she was very satifisfied and felt like she had the NEXT step if she still felt stuck.

She realized that having a more intentional approach to planning would create better results for her children.

Why is is so difficult for kids to spell and write?

Why do children struggle with their writing? This is an age-old question many educators like myself have been facing for a long time. Parents want answers and educators work hard to give them the answers. But, writing takes a LOT of effort. When we ask our children to write there is a lot going on. 👉🏻They need to come up with their idea and store it in their head. This involves their working memory. When kids are struggling with any task due to a learning problem such as Dyslexia, this will...

Is reading time ending in tears?

Let's Get the Inside Scoop For many years, American school systems have been drifting further and further away from phonemic awareness and phonics in grade schools. There has been a BIG shift toward whole language learning and less of an emphasis on HOW kids learn to read. The thinking was that the more kids are exposed to reading, the more they will learn about reading. There is some merit to this. Having a text-rich environment, reading to your children, and sharing your love of reading...
