The Year in Review!

The Year in Review!

This year has been a year of growth for me professionally as well as for my students!

Let's chat about it!

For my students:

Most of my students were published in a poetry anthology earlier this year. This was inspired by a review of poetry during our spring assessment review. I wanted it to be fun, and sometimes just reading poetry is not as exciting for those boring slides that we can read with old poems on them. We dove in and learned about rhyming, poetry patterns, and different types of poems. This led to creating poems as we studied fun poems by newer and older poets. The students submitted up to three poems and most of them were accepted for publication!

I graduated a couple of students from my program this year. While this may seem sad, it was a time to rejoice! These kiddos had shown up, worked hard, and mastered the skills they needed to be confident and knowledgeable in the classroom!

My students have grown with their technology skills. They have learned to work their way through Google Classroom links, share their screens, use Google Slides, Google Docs, Canva, and Kamiapp all the while learning the skills each one needs to perform better with their reading, writing, and math skills. They have improved their reading rates, comprehension skills, spelling skills, writing skills, and math skills! Whew! We have done a LOT!

For my professional growth:

I helped monitor two Facebook pages earlier this year. It was fun, but wow, it was a lot of work. Hats off to all of you who manage a Facebook group!

I supported many educators who were learning the art of tutoring both in-person and online. I partnered with Kelly Michelle Dharamshi from Tutoring Tips for Teachers and Yoli Kay-Dee from Targeted Learning ACS to bring Soar 2 Conference for Tutors. We hosted several amazing tutors who showcased their skills and had a wonderful sponsor working with PencilSpaces. We went on to host a group of tutors in the upgrade to Soar 2 and each of the hosts shared information for the members that helped them boost their confidence and skills in tutoring, marketing, and running their tutoring businesses.

I launched the Tech Hub for Tutors and have supported tutors inside and outside of the membership. My members have learned how to navigate Google Classroom, Google Docs, Google Slides, and Google Meet. They have learned skills to use with email systems, YouTube channels, marketing their business, helpful tech hints, whiteboards, and much more!

I grew my Tutoring with Sheryl YouTube page to 100 subscribers and am slowing growing it. I have hosted some amazing educators this year and I want to thank ALL of you who took time to visit with me!

I launched a new playlist on the Tutoring with Sheryl YouTube page with Tina McMillian that I am calling The Student Success Squad. We are spotlighting monthly challenges for students and parents with real-life solutions!

I launched the Tech TutorInnovate YouTube page to host helpful videos for tutors as they run into technology challenges with their tutoring or in their tutoring business.

It has been a great year and I want to thank you for joining me for the ride!

What will the New Year hold?

I am launching my Google Classroom Bootcamp in January! Mark your calendars for January 9th, 2025 at 8 PM, Central Time Zone. Here is the calendar link! Book your spot now!

What will you get? Knowlege and working examples of how to use Google Classroom with your students. You can map out your plan of action for each student (virtual lesson planning) that will allow you to teach-on-the-go! You will also see examples of how to build out a course that you can then market and earn passive income from! Wow! That is a lot! You will have a LIVE meeting on January 9th for the initial fee of $30 USD, followed by an invitation to join the self-paced course where you get step-by-step details of what I will cover in the live course. You will have access to that library for 3 months for an upgrade of an additional $45 USD.

Have You Discovered The Tutoring with Sheryl Podcast? Yes, it is a REAL thing! I began a podcast about 5 or 6 years ago as I was learning new strategies to use in my classroom with my students. It was always a goal of mine to get the kids to learn new technologies that they could use later in life. As I was learning more about Google apps, I began my journey preparing for the Google for Educators Certification. One of the things you had to understand was how to create a blog and at that time,...

I know that I have a couple of additional items to get purchased and wrapped for some special people in my life! I guess I had better get moving on that! A few years ago, I put together a list of ideas for parents and I had posted it on my old website. I had focused on math games for kids. I dove into my...
