Unlock Your Video Voice Today!

Step-by-Step Directions for Making a Solid Video!

When I first got started with videos, I was VERY worried about making it.

I was afraid about what people would think about me.

Who does she think she is?

What makes her the expert?

I even was trying to sabatoge myself! What if people didn't want to watch my videos? What if I say something wrong? What it doesn't look good?

These are ALL of the things that I have thought!

Here are some simple steps that might help you get over your fears.

1.) Know your audience, or WHO you want to talk to.

That will make it so much easier to share your message! If you know that you are talking to a parent who has a struggling reader, then put yourself in their shoes. Think about what how those parents must be feeling about the fact that their child is struggling to read. Consider what they may have tried or thought about trying. Remember that parents may not be able to actually figure out how to teach their child. They are looking for someone just like YOU to help them out! This SAME advice will go for ANYONE who is considering to make a video. You certainly don't have to do it this way, but if you want to talk to your audience, you have to consider what their problem is. Once you determine that, you can go to the next step.

2.) Talk about how YOU can HELP solve the problem!

When I share about how I help students overcome their reading problem and I give specific examples of what I am doing in lessons, there are people who listen and they can see their own child benefiting from the help that I am providing my current students. But wait! You might not be started yet. How do you go about talking about that? You focus on what you plan to do with students when they sign up for your program! Keep it general but talk about the pain point and then share ideas about how YOU want to help students overcome their problems.

3.) Write out a SCRIPT!

When I first started making videos or podcast episodes, I would write most of it out. I was so worried I was going to sound silly or make a mistake. But, I found that it sounded like I was reading a book. I transitioned to a list of talking points and it became easier for ME to make my videos. At this point, I usually just have ideas and turn on the calendar and start talking.

4.) How do I record?

I use a variety of tools, but I mostly use my Google Workspace and use Google Meet to either go LIVE on YouTube or make a recording, allow it to upload to my Google Drive. Then I download it to my computer and upload it directly to YouTube.

I also use my phone and create short videos for stories and Reels.

The best part is, if I don't like it, I either edit it, or I don't use it!

5.) Give yourself permission to share your voice!

There is someone out there that wants to hear from you! You do not need a big audience. At first, you may be talking to yourself! I certainly was! And, I still don't have a huge audience! I am totally okay with that! I just share my experiences and someone will want to learn from me. That is the beauty of it! You just share your experiences, and the right person will come along and be so glad they discovered you!

Stay tuned! We will be talking about how to use YouTube, Instagram, and Facebook to share your videos!

Pitfalls for Tutoring at the Library-Simple Solutions

Tutoring at the Library Tutoring at the library, does this limit my tutoring business? I think this depends on your business plan. Parents wouldn’t pick their kids up on time, so she had to sit and wait. Then she had to determine if she should charge extra for making sure they were supervised. (The answer to that is YES!) She...
